Pair Of Carved Phoenixes

Original paint with overcoat. Removed from a ceiling of a house to be destroyed in Fujian province. The house was at least 100 years old.

These carved phoenixes with their original paint are made so that the main vertical  body of each bird is one piece of wood, with each wing attached to the body.  They are actually quite fragile, and I suspect that the wings have been reattached in the past.  I believe the wings are original, however.  I bought these because I think they are simply exquisite.  The pair of phoenixes symbolize "happiness."
