Bench with Carved Spandrels
Bench with carved spandrels. First quarter 20th century.
This bench is typical of the very simple benches found all over China for everyday use - including restaurant seating. This bench has it's legs attached directly to the top, and the only concessions to decoration are the small apron that runs completely around the bench and the carved spandrels attached to the legs and the top. It would be hard to find a sturdier bench, or one that more of a "country" look to it.
