Cypress Bench With Replaced Bamboo Top

This eighty year-old bench has ornamental peaches and a heart-shaped flower as pillars between the stretcher and the frame. It is made from cypress wood. This bench has certain interesting architectural details.  Note that the picture frame molded top extends beyond the feet, with a fairly short waist below the top.  The bench, made from Cypress, originated in Southern China and dates from the first quarter of the 20th century.  Please note the stretcher joining the legs is attached to the top by highly symbolic struts, including the "peach of immortality."  I believe that the flowered strut is a blooming lotus, although when it comes to Chinese flowers, I am "slow but not sure."  An altogether charming bench.  People have asked if the replaced rattan top attempted to duplicate the original.  Truthfully, I cannot answer that question as I did not see the bench before the top was replaced.
