First Elm Bench

There is not much to elaborate  about this bench.  Simplicity is the word.  It has a single plank top, the legs attached directly to the top.  This bench has no waist.  It does have a simple apron just below the top with decorative spandrels connecting  the legs and apron.  Note the evidence of age demonstrated by the slight staining of the legs.  This bench - considered so ordinary in China - has absorbed water through the legs.  Some of the spandrels may have been replaced. End of the 19th century. Depth of top is 9".
