Long Bench with Carving

I wish I could tell you the wood used to make this bench. I can't. Judging by its weight, however, it is indeed a hardwood. What distinguishes this bench is, of course, the segmented design just below the apron. Those carvings add so much to the appeal of the bench, and take it a level or two above the more commonly found. Some of the carvings may have been replaced. If so, it was so well done, that the replacements - if any - are very hard to spot. Strong and sturdy, your four year old or 64 year old can jump up and down on it, and have no fear of collapse. Over 100 years old.
