Four Door Buffet With Original Painting

This elm buffet is a wonderful example of everything about Chinese Country.  One can see that the feet have absorbed water, and there is the obvious resultant discoloration to the original paint which has been clear coated.  While looking at the feet, notice the beautifully scrolled apron joining the feet below the doors.  This buffet probably originated in Shanxi province, and needed considerable restoration to make it both functional and attractive.  The door openings have been modified to permit easier interior access, and the interior shelf replaced.  Note also that the top of the buffet has been smoothed to eliminate splinters and rough places.  The side aprons have been modified.  Pure country, this buffet dates from the first quarter of the 20th century.
