Low Chest With Two Drawers
This chest is another of the kind that generally fit in below a window. Made from elm in Shanxi province sometime in the first half of the 20th century, it has had its doors modified to permit easier access. Look at the picture of the chest, and you can see that the original panel below the cupboard has been cut into half. Each half of the apron has been used to make a drawer front. Therefore the chest has a bit more storage space than contemplated by its original maker. The interior shelf and the hardware have also been replaced. Please note the carved scroll work on the drawer fronts.
