Second Stacking Chest

A most unusual form, this is only the second set of stacking drawers I have seen.  Each shelf has a lip that holds the set together.  The frame insures that the drawers stay together but also enables them to be moved with relative ease.  This set is made of poplar, and probably originated in Shandong Province in the last quarter of the 19th century.  There are age appropriate repairs in some of the drawer lips.  Quite a unique form!
