This repainted red stool was made from Southern Elm (ju mu) in Zhejiang province in the middle of the 20th century. It has a rectangular shaped seat with legs mortised right through the seat and stretchers joining each of two pairs of legs with a single stretcher keeping the two sets of legs strong and sturdy. This is a simple country stool typical of that which is found all over China.
