I remember when my parents bought their first TV set. It was a Dumont. Long after the TV was no more, they kept the cabinet, as my Mother thought it was great furniture. This Book chest reminds me all in the world of our Dumont TV set. It was built for books - not a TV; the elm is simply beautiful with a delightfully carved base. Rarely does one find original hinges in Chinese furniture. As a result, the doors are actually removable. This case originated in Shandong province during the first quarter of the 20th century, and has a replaced shelf. My Mother would have loved it.
