This Southern Elm (Ju Mu) table was designed to be used by those writing calligraphy. This table is a particularly nice one. Refinished, it has slightly canted legs, a picture frame molded top and the inserted panel is one piece of wood instead of the normal two or three. It has carved spandrels on each leg, with a well executed beading around the legs. My best guess is that this table is late 19th century. I am unsure of the originating province although it is probably Guangxi. It does have a replaced spandrel. The table is beautifully proportioned.
