This elm and poplar chest was made in Gansu Province in the first quarter of the 20th century. Just look at the paint! Faded red and yellow create a soft beauty. The trunk has been clear coated, and has replaced hardware. Trunks such as this one used to be relatively easy to acquire in China. Now the hunting is getting harder, and chests with this paint quality are highly sought after.
