First "Tree Branch" Bench

"Tree branch" bench. Circa 1950.  These benches - so simple and primitive - are carved directly from trees where the natural limb growth provides the legs.  The underside of the tree has been carved out to decrease bench weight, and add more definition to the top and legs.  This piece just makes me smile.  If you have access to woods, however, just see how many trees you can find where there are four limbs that would  act as legs were you to make a similar bench.  It's a tricky exercise, and one that made me appreciate this bench even more.
