First Pair of Horseshoe Armchairs

Looking at these chairs, it is easy to see how they came by the name "horseshoe"  These chairs are about 150 years old, and most probably originated in Shanxi province.  What's not to like about them?  There is a traditional design carved into the back splat, a well executed 3 piece apron between the seat and the footrest and stretchers connecting the legs.  This style chair goes back to the  16th and 17th centuries (Ming Dynasty).  The magnificent proportions, and simple grace of the chairs enables them to be right at home in a traditional Chinese home, or a modern western home. The seat height is 19".
