Third Pair of Elm Stools

This pair of elm stools, made most probably in Shandong Province around the beginning of the 20th century, was constructed to resemble carved bamboo around the bench tops.  The legs are also rounded and the circular theme is continued by the use of the conjoined coins in the stretcher between the legs.  Conjoined coins signify double happiness - wealth and longevity.  The style of these stools is more Qing than Ming.
