Low Table With Three Drawers
This poplar table, made in Shanxi around the end of the 19th century, was made to resemble bamboo. Note the curved legs and struts. The drawers have been rebuilt or added from the original panels. Could this table have been used on a kang (a raised heated platform found in many Chinese houses)? Yes, it could have, but I rather doubt it, as it would take more space than the tables typically used. For the western house, this piece works well as a coffee table.
